Matte Uncoated Paper & Embossing Effects

Matte Uncoated paper is a lovely way to convey a vintage or soft feel to packaging.

Embossing is fun special effect where you can add raised text. If you prefer indented, we can also do that. These effects provide a very tactile feel.

Creating a Vintage Look

Effects that help the vintage look along:

Uncoated matte stock
Printing 4C/4C for continuous art coverage (esp if creating distressed paper look)

No plastic items

Adding Special Items like Stencils

On the inside of this custom jacket is a lovely stencil. We can create all kinds of retail items – coins, toys, pencils, 3D glasses – to name a few, and place them in the package.

Adding a Wrap across the Inside

Adding a wrap across the inside of a jacket gives it a LP or book binding type of feel, reminiscent of how retro titles were made.
Wraps can be printed or solid color.

Attaching a Booklet to the Wrap at the Spine

Attaching the booklet to the wrap at the spine adds to an inner page type of feel. This is a neat option as long as your booklet isn’t too heavy, in which case it will pull at the wrap too much and cause tearing.

Cross Shaped Packaging

Cross Shaped Jackets can be created in 10pp to 14pp configurations. Generally the discs are held with pockets, sleeves, or hubs on a jacket rather than trays.

1C Black and 1C Metallic Ink Printing

Black ink can either be a 1C PMS or it can be a cmyk rich black.
Metallic inks can be added, these are PMS colors.

Custom Die Cut Windows

Die Cut Windows can be used to spotlight images and names on business cards. A great way to personalize a title.

Creating Custom CD DVD Jackets with Fiberboard Stock

Fiberboard is a brownish, unbleached paper stock made from recycled / reclaimed end of chain material. It can be printed up to 4 colors.

Hubs are a really unique way to hold a disc and keep it very visible. You have options for black or white foam hubs, or even cork hubs.

8pp = 8 Panels

Nomenclature for Printed Packaging:
2pp = front & back, like a envelope sleeve
4pp = 2 panels inside, 2 outside, like a bifold
6pp = 3 panels inside, 3 outside, like a trifold
8pp = 4 panels inside, 4 outside

Wide Spine Jackets

We can make wide spine jackets in 2pp or 4pp+ versions.
In the 2pp Jacket versions, we generally make extra items to go inside (inner sleeves, booklets, etc.) so the disc isn’t rattling around in an empty space.
4pp jackets can also have extra wide spines with normal sized pockets.

Printing white on Fiberboard

Fiberboard can be printed up to 4 colors, but white is an extra step. Depending on the end result you want, we can either printer a spot white with a 1x or 2x hit of regular white ink, or a stronger UV cured spot white. Flood whites can also be done under the color printing.

Japanese Style LPs

We can make Japanese style LPs in a size and material thickness. Some clients like these 2pp, some 4pp. Some with Inner Sleeves and Booklets.

OBI Strips or Belly Bands can be made in any dimension and thickness. Generally they are full color 4C/0C.

Resealable Bags are another popular add on with Japanese LPs.

PopUp Paks - 3D Custom CD DVD Jackets

Popup Paks are our own specially patented design that allows the disc to be held in a 3D fashion.
We use a special folding mechanism, sometimes wax, and special paper weights. We’ve experimented a lot with these and have a very good idea of what works and what doesn’t.
